Solidarity with ONA taking government to court to fight for right to strike

COPE Ontario stands firmly with @ontario.nurses and its 68,000 members as they challenge the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act in court. For decades this law has stripped nurses and health-care professionals of their constitutional right to strike, forcing them into a bargaining system that leaves employers with little incentive to negotiate in good faith. The result is plain to see in the staffing crisis affecting hospitals and long-term care homes across the province.

Every worker deserves the right to meaningful collective bargaining, including the right to withdraw their labour. We commend ONA’s leadership for taking this fight to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and for standing up for the fundamental rights of the workers who keep our health-care system running. COPE Ontario will continue to support workers across every sector as they push back against laws that undermine their bargaining power, and we wish ONA strength and success in this historic challenge.
