For over 20 years, the Hamilton and District Injured Workers Group (@hamiltoninjuredworkers) has provided free essential support for injured workers and their loved ones. Their work is a lifeline. It ensures that these workers obtain their rights to justice, dignity, equality, health & safety and security.
Last month, the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) made the decision to defund the Injured Workers’ Group, cutting 100% of their operational funds. When the final payments are exhausted, in September, the Injured Workers’ Group will struggle to pay rent and wages, completely reducing their capacity to support the community.
This is peer support, claim assistance, and education stripped away from workers who are already navigating pain, fear, and an overwhelming system. No website or online portal can replace a real person who understands what you’re going through and helps you fight for what you’re owed.
COPE Ontario stands in full solidarity with HDIWG and injured workers across the province. We’re calling on the WSIB and the Ford government to reverse this decision and restore stable, long-term funding.
