We just had to share these findings from our friends at Environmental Defence, whose staff are represented by COPE Ontario Local 225.
While wildfires rage across the country and extreme weather events seemingly move closer and closer to one’s doorstep, Mark Carney has thought it wise to decimate Canada’s climate progress. Why? Because he’s in a torrid love affair with Big Oil. So much so, that during the first year of the Carney administration, Big Oil lobbyists had 1,318 – that’s one thousand three hundred and eighteen – meetings with government!
Likely a direct result of these meetings, Carney has granted his Big Oil pals’ wishes: the gutting of clean energy regulations, the scrapping of the mandate requiring all new cars sold by 2035 to be electric, and a new bitumen pipeline to the west coast – funded by taxpayer money.
And, to top it all off, Carney knows exactly what he is doing. Just last month he admitted: “The changes we have made will mean that our emissions will be higher in the next few years than they were projected to be under the previous government’s plan. But in my judgement, that plan was not sustainable over the long term. It would have been too expensive for Canadians.”
Do you know what is not sustainable? Do you know what Canadians really can’t afford? Climate destruction.
